About SONETLabs, Inc.
In 1999, Dr Al Omran, SONETLab’s Chief Scientist recognized that many portions of the SONET standard dating back to the late 1980’s had been “reserved for future use” as often happens with standards. Dr Al believed that some of these elements of the SONET could aid SONET’s ability to carry data traffic. Long forgotten by the time the Internet arrived, these capabilities had been completely overlooked by engineers who developed POS and IPATM. In short, Dr Omran recognized inherent and commercially unutilized intelligence in the SONET standard and he founded SONETLabs to take advantage of that discovery.
Dr Omran’s career spans 20+ years as a senior engineer in the telecommunications industry at corporations such as Unisys, Pac-Tel Cellular, TRW Systems and Pacific Bell/SBC where he served as a senior network architect on the the SBC-Williams Optical Cable Under-sea network between mainland China and San Louis Obispo California.
Dr Omran holds several advanced degrees including a Ph D. in discreet mathematics from MIT, an MSEE in Physics from UCAL - Irvine, a BSCS in Computer Science from Birmingham University, UK, and a BSEE from Cairo University in Egypt. In addition to the 17 patents that underlie SONETLab's technology Dr Omran also holds a number of patents for floating point parallel processing in supercomputers.
He is a member of the INTELSAT Organization, the T1E1 Telecommunication Standards body, the ATM Forum, and the xDSL Standard Forum. |
